The Senchix association, which brings together young girls and women active in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), celebrated Girls in ICT Day (JFTIC) this Saturday. The event, focused on the theme of “female leadership”, saw the participation of recognized panelists from the technological ecosystem who addressed the importance of the competence and engagement of young girls in science.

“This Girls in ICT Day was held two days ago, on April 25, and was celebrated in the Philippines. In Senegal, we postponed the event to allow more participants to join us. What strikes me the most is the commitment of young girls to scientific studies,” explains Aminata Dramé, Director of network infrastructure strategy in Africa for the Orange group. It highlights a disturbing reality: although women represent a large proportion of baccalaureate graduates, their presence decreases drastically over the years of study, particularly at the doctoral level where they are often penalized.

In addition, Aminata Dramé, former student of the Lycée Lamine Gueye in Dakar, questions: “Should we link domestic responsibilities to family life? This is not just an excuse, but a reality that explains why there are so few women in management and leadership positions. » She emphasizes the importance of recognizing and promoting women’s skills in ICT to encourage others to reach leadership positions.

“In our country, it is crucial to recognize the role of women in ICT, this allows them to identify with certain leading figures. We must not be satisfied with averages, we must aspire to see more women leaders in ICT,” concludes the Director of Strategy.
