During the meeting of the municipal council of the City of Dakar held on Friday, April 26, Mayor Barthélémy Dias highlighted his intention to request a meeting with the new, newly installed President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
This approach aims to present to the Head of State the broad outlines of his municipal policy as well as the obstacles encountered in the administration of the city. This initiative is a continuation of the practice of Barthélémy Dias, who had already adopted this approach with former President Macky Sall.
In addition to this major political aspect, the Mayor informed the members of the council of his recent interactions with those responsible for Ageroute and the French Development Agency (Afd), as part of the preparations for the 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games. which will take place in Dakar. He announced the upcoming organization of an information workshop to better inform the various stakeholders of the issues and the organization of this international event.
The meeting also served as a forum to discuss the strike of local authority workers, with the hope expressed by the Mayor that this situation finds a positive resolution before the May 1st holiday. This strike highlights existing tensions within municipal services and their potential impact on social stability and city operations.
It should be noted that although Barthélémy Dias highlighted the presence of “major directions and difficulties”, he did not specify the details of these challenges. It is clear that previous relations with the Macky Sall regime were punctuated by conflicts, notably with projects blocked during the era of his predecessor as mayor, Khalifa Sall, who remains an influential figure and mentor of the current Mayor. .
