Uhe swimming pool in Nancy, opened last year after a significant investment, remained closed on Sunday morning, the water from the Olympic pool emptying abnormally into a technical room.
“A major water leak was detected, preventing access to the installations,” said the Greater Nancy metropolis in a press release early Sunday afternoon. The swimming pool was unable to open its doors at the start of the day.
Two-thirds of the 1,400 m3 of water present in the Olympic pool flowed abnormally into a technical room of the installation, creating a flood to the height of 80 cm, François Werner, vice-president at the metropolis, confirming information from L’Est Républicain.
The complex, called Nancy Thermal, required four years of work and an investment of nearly 100 million euros to emerge from the ground. It was inaugurated a year ago.
The situation “presents no danger for residents of the neighborhood,” said the metropolis.
Firefighters intervene on site. The operator, Valvital, is “waiting for the end of the pumping to make a diagnosis of the origin of the disaster”, specified Mr. Werner.
No reopening date has been set at this stage, it will take place when the “incident” is resolved. “The spa and wellness facilities” remain open.
The space dedicated to spa treatments at the Nancy Thermal complex also experienced setbacks last year, opening late in July, only to close in August following technical problems.
The complex is made up of an “Aquasport” section, where the pool affected by this technical malfunction is located, a “Health” area for thermal treatments and a “well-being” area with spa.
