Intense Israeli strikes against Hezbollah left 492 dead on Monday in Lebanon, including 35 children, according to the authorities of this country, which experienced its deadliest day in nearly a year of exchanges of fire between the two parties on the sidelines of the war in Gaza.

Raising fears of an uncontrollable spiral, this escalation between Israel and the powerful Lebanese Hezbollah, supported by Iran, is arousing serious concern in the international community.

The Israeli army, which is pounding the south and east of the neighboring country, also announced a “targeted strike” in Beirut, targeting, according to Hezbollah, the commander of the southern front of this formation, who escaped.

The human toll has continued to rise over the hours. The Israeli strikes have left 492 dead, including 35 children, and 1,645 injured, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced in a new count late in the evening.

In a video, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recommended at the end of the day that the Lebanese “move away from dangerous areas” while waiting for the end of the “operation”.

His Lebanese counterpart, Najib Mikati, denounced “a plan to destroy” his country, where schools will remain closed on Tuesday.
