The crowd wanted to fight

AFP identified the location from the video as the Church of Christ the Good Shepherd, in Wakeley, in the western suburbs of Sydney. The neighborhood is known for welcoming members of the small Assyrian Christian community who fled persecution and war in Iraq and Syria. This church hosts a religious service on Monday evenings.

On Saturday, a previous knife attack left six dead and several injured in Sydney. It was carried out in a shopping center by a 40-year-old man suffering from mental illness, with nothing suggesting a terrorist motive, according to Australian police.

Five of the six victims killed by Joel Cauchi, a 40-year-old mentally ill man, are women, as are most of those injured. The attacker was shot dead.
