Reading Nights are organized by the National Book Center around the theme of heritage for 2025. They were created in 2017 by Audrey Azoulay, then Minister of Culture, to encourage and celebrate the pleasure of reading for all. Hundreds of libraries, media libraries and bookstores, as well as museums and theaters, will remain open for an evening of discovery and entertainment. In 2024, nearly 8,500 events took place in France. Everyone will once again compete in ingenuity to receive the largest audience around literature in all its forms.
In the Morbihanthe theme of the 2025 Reading Nights is “ heritage », a vast subject which can refer to literature, transmission, a place or a building which is of archaeological, artistic, cultural, scientific, intellectual, religious or natural interest. Whether it is a historical monument, a university, a church, or even an aesthetic element of a facade, heritage is found in all its forms…
In VannesSaturday January 25, the Beaupré-Lalande media library will offer a light painting workshop, a magical juggling show, a musical reading, creative and poetic workshops… and other surprises.
– Magical and musical juggling: Bobby & moi is a spectacle without words orchestrated by the Poc Company. Bobby McFerrin is a voice magician, he escapes for a moment from a vinyl and meets a juggler and gesture musician. Their complicity, as strong as it is ephemeral, vibrates and breathes for thirty-three little turns, and then… goes away…. Two performances at 7 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.
– a musical reading will be offered by the Vannes Departmental Radiation Conservatory. Through words and melodies, this musical reading invites young children and their parents to dream and imagine the secrets of the night. Four musicians will accompany this story by combining literature and music for a journey into the heart of the night. Three performances at 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.
In Pontivy, Friday January 24 from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. (34 bis, rue du Général de Gaulle), the Espace Kenere media library offers a night like no other with meetings for the whole family and reading sessions for little ears, literary and poetic naps. HAS MalestroitFriday January 24 from 2:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. (5&7 rue Sainte-Anne), on Le Pass'Temps cultural center organizes a program for adults and children with a subdued atmosphere! At the beginning of the afternoon, it will be a soup workshop who will be waiting for the participants, then at 4:30 p.m., games for adults and children! From 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., we move on to tasting the soup and picnic for those who plan to bring it.
The two activities around reading will be observed from 8 p.m.:
1) vigil told with Mata Rollo, which will invite us to return the tales to wild life. Matao Rollo stands halfway between oral tradition and stage performance. The storyteller speaks the language of the papivole, to remind us that Gallo is also a fragile poetry capable of metamorphoses; he will tell stories that have been passed down for centuries.

HAS Lorient, the network of media libraries, the Conservatory and the Heritage and Archives service will offer a rich and varied program from Thursday January 23 to Saturday January 31 : readings aloud, music, dances and games will transform the media libraries, the Notre-Dame-de-Victoire church and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, into living scenes for unforgettable experiences:
-– Thursday January 23: at the Keryado media library at 5:30 p.m. : Traveling tales with Anne Madoré, Paul Garangé and Anne-Marie Ragui, amateur storytellers the association Once upon a timewill invite the public on a journey around the world
– Friday January 24: at the François Mitterrand media libraryfrom 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.: librarians will read extracts from the Easy to Read Price selection. These adapted works contain simple texts, visual formats or even audio books to allow a wide audience to discover the pleasure of reading.
From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.: musical readings and dances : music and dance teachers, conservatory students and librarians will offer unique performances, mixing selected texts and performing arts – Times: at 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.
– Saturday January 25: at the Kervénanec media library at 2:30 p.m.: The conte Raven brings back the light will be performed by le duo Kalmedaz. In a world plunged into darkness, Raven discovers that the light is locked in a chest by an old wizard-chief and decides to free it.
At 5 p.m.: Plural memories will be a reading of the testimonies of Lorient residents of Lorient in 1939-1945; This proposal is part of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Lorient Pocket, organized by the Lorient Heritage and Archives service. Reading will allow us to better understand the daily lives of women and men in the turmoil of war. Memory then becomes a heritage to be constantly read and reread – This animation is accessible to people with disabilities, magnetic loop, LSF translation and Easy to Read text at the Notre-Dame de Victoire church (duration approximately 45 minutes per location )
At 6:30 p.m. at Notre-Dame-de-Victoire church: a reading the testimonies priests from the parishes of Lanester and Keryado will be observed, as well as Sister Ignace in Guidel: it will offer a unique look at the arrival of the Germans, the Lorient Pocket and its Liberation…
At 8 p.m.: the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Morbihan will offer readings that will resonate with this place requisitioned during the war to serve as a Kommandantur.
HAS RashFriday January 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the public is invited to the Story-telling vigil by the media library to listen to tales from yesterday and today, from here and elsewhere on the theme of heritage: an intimate and family heritage bequeathed by our ancestors, transmitted from generation to generation; collective heritage resulting from common heritage; literature is a component of this heritage and becomes a way of bringing it to life… The reading will be done by volunteers from the media library
