The year 2024 was rich in television series. Which ones were rated the best by viewers on AlloCiné? Here is the ranking of the 5 most popular series.
The Penguin – MAX
Launched on September 20 on MAX, “The Penguin” is a continuation of the film “The Batman” by Matt Reeves, with Robert Pattinson in the role of the batman. Actor Colin Farrell finds the character of Oswald Cobblepot, the former right-hand man of Carmine Falcone, the former crime boss in Gotham City. The series shows how this second-rate criminal will succeed in rising to the top of the hierarchy after the death of his former boss.
The eight episodes of “The Penguin” did not disappoint fans of “The Batman”, as showrunner Lauren LeFranc manages to recreate the dark and sticky atmosphere of Matt Reeves’ film. This series offers a fascinating dive into the life of Gotham City’s neighborhoods, and into the heart of the crime that the hero seeks to fight. As a reminder, the second part of “The Batman” is expected in theaters in fall 2026.
Fallout – Prime Video
Adaptation of the eponymous video game created in 1997, “Fallout” caused a sensation when it was released on Prime Video in April 2024. The eight episodes follow the story of Lucy, the inhabitant of a shelter where part of the humanity has found refuge in order to escape the nuclear apocalypse. Forced to seek help outside her bunker to help the inhabitants of shelter number 33, she will discover a devastated world, populated by survivors disfigured by radiation. And where an army called the Brotherhood of Steel has the mission of enforcing law and order in the devastated regions.
Piloted by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner, and produced by Jonathan Nolan (who directed the first three episodes) and Lisa Joy, “Fallout” managed to seduce critics and audiences with its ingenious post-apocalyptic story and a cast of quality. Fans are now impatient to discover season 2, which could arrive at the end of 2025. Note the presence of Macaulay Culkin in the role of a mad scientist.
Ripley – Netflix
New adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s novel, after “Plein soleil” in 1960, and “The Talented Mr. Ripley” in 1999, “Ripley” sees Andrew Scott play the famous crook Tom Ripley, commissioned by Herbert Greeleaf to convince his son, Richard, to return to live in the United States. Tom goes to Atrani, Italy, where he finds traces of the young man. He is quickly fascinated by the latter’s easy lifestyle, all of whom are unaware of Tom Ripley’s real motivations.
Launched on April 4 on Netflix, “Ripley” seduced as much by the aesthetics of its black and white images as by the performance of its actors, in particular that of Andrew Scott, captivating in the main role. But also Dakota Fanning and Johnny Flynn. Don’t let yourself be discouraged by the relatively slow pace at the start of the series which, once it shifts in the third episode, turns out to be terribly addictive.
