US presidential election
The inauguration photo of the 45th and 47th president of the United States has been unveiled. Donald Trump followed the tradition of the official photo, a few days before taking office on January 20.
The portrait was made public by the president-elect’s official photographer, Daniel Torok, on Wednesday January 15. Donald Trump poses in close-up, face closed and forehead furrowed, in front of an American flag. A photo which contrasts with his official photo from 2017, during his first term. The 45th American president posed from further away, with a big smile, still in front of the star-spangled banner.
This new photo recalls another photo of Donald Trump, which went around the world in 2023: his famous “mugshot”. On August 24, 2023, the then former president was subjected to a historic mugshot in an Atlanta prison, where he was charged for his electoral lobbying in 2020.
The photo is taken in close-up like that of his inauguration, and his expression is almost similar. Except for one detail: in the mug shot, Donald Trump is wearing a red tie. In the official photo, it is electric blue. An American flag pin also appeared on the lapel of his navy blue jacket.
This “mugshot”, taken in the sheriff’s department of the capital of the state of Georgia, instantly found itself on the front page of the American media and made the rounds on social networks. The portrait had even joined the gallery of historical legal photos, alongside Al Capone, Jane Fonda and OJ Simpson.

Far from being ashamed of it, Donald Trump published the photo on X, which marked his return to the social network, accompanied by the caption “Never surrender!“. The opportunity to denounce once again “the witch hunt” of which he claims to be a victim, and to earn money: the famous “mugshot” t-shirts, mugs and donation posters have sold like hotcakes.
