The president of the National Council of the Order of Architects (CNOA), Chakib Benabdellah, called on Tuesday in Fez to integrate climate issues into urban and architectural design. This is becoming an “absolute necessity”, he said at the opening of the 39th national architect’s day organized under the theme “the citizen facing climate change: Issues of energy and water “.

Mr. Benabdellah underlined the need to highlight the role that the architect must assume in the face of the problem of climate change. “The architect, much more than a space designer, is a key player in this ecological transition and his civic role must be manifested in an important way in this context, where energy and water issues are at the heart of concerns”he noted, during this day initiated under the High Patronage of HSM King Mohammed VI.

The president of the CNOA further stressed that this role “must manifest itself in particular through the control of the energy of buildings by designing buildings with high energy performance favoring renewable energies, the choice of materials by favoring local products. with low environmental impact and the use of passive strategies such as orientation and natural ventilation”.

“The architect can also integrate water recovery and treatment into the design of rain collection systems and water treatment to reduce pressure on water resources”he added.
