The International Comedy Film Festival opens this Monday, January 13 at Alpe d’Huez, the first important meeting of the year for the 7th art in . The event of this 2025 edition remains the return of the Tuche!

Les Tuche : God Save the Tuchesubtitle of this fifth episode made for the first time by Jean-Paul Rouvewho also co-wrote the screenplay and who obviously plays the role of Jeff Tuche. This time, the whole family will find themselves invited to the court of King Charles III of England and create a bit of a mess in all the protocol.

It’s not easy to continue a saga which has already attracted nearly 15 million spectators in theaters in 14 years. Jean-Paul Rouve is therefore betting on continuing the adventure. “When we make cinema, we do it for the public. So we have to feel a desire, a desire. When we knew there was the desire, we said to ourselves, come on, let’s go ahead, let’s write. We go on several tracks. That’s good for Alpe d’Huez. There you go, it happened. There, we had two leads in this case. And it was England that won,” explains the director.

“I didn’t want to realize it”

Jean-Paul Rouve was not initially excited about the idea of directing this new film, but another pillar of French comedy was able to convince him. “At first I didn’t want to do it. Not out of vanity, because the films I make are a bit about films, dramatic comedies, about life. It’s completely different from doing Tuche. And I say to myself, maybe I wouldn’t know how to do it. Maybe I won’t be doing them any favors, actually. Write it, yes. Playing it, yes, obviously. But I said, maybe I’m not the best at this. Really. And I spoke about it to Alain Chabat. He told me: ‘If you don’t do it, you’re a complete idiot’. And so, I said to myself, come on.”

He ultimately did well, the result navigates between burlesque and offbeat moment, very Robin Hood, while respecting the Tuche DNA. But Jean-Paul Rouve especially did not did not want to rely on pre-established recipes. “You should never think about writing by saying to yourself: ‘What will make people laugh?’. These are speeches that I have heard often. I find that there are a contemptuous sidebecause you don’t know what they’re going to like yet. And if you already don’t like it and you say that they will like it, that means that you consider yourself superior”, estimates the actor.
