The Porsche 917 from the film “” and ex-Steve McQueen put up for auction

A Porsche 917 rarely goes unnoticed. So when it comes to a film, especially that of Steve McQueen, it’s impossible to miss it. Well, it will be available at the next Mecum Auctions auction in the Florida region of Kissimmee.

This chassis 917-022 was acquired straight from the Porsche factories in 1969 by Steve McQueen and the production company, Solar Productions to shoot the film “” a year later.

Since then, the Porsche 917, recognizable at the time thanks to its emblematic Gulf livery, has changed hands several times. Reinhold Joest took it over in 1971 before selling it to Brian Redman in 1975. The latter sold it to Richard Attwood in 1977 who kept it for 23 years. Frank Gallogly took it over in 2000. Its last owner has been comedian Jerry Seinfeld since 2001.

The German prototype underwent a full restoration through Cavaglieri Restorations, completed last August. This has been restored to its original condition as in 1970, among other things. See you now on January 18 for the auction where its future owner will have to pay tens of millions of euros to acquire it.
