Endemol is joining forces with TF1 to denounce the harassment suffered by candidates in the current season of the “Star Academy”.
The production of the new season of Star AcademyEndemol, commits once again against online harassment that some candidates experience. And denounces in a press release published this Tuesday, December 24, the “hateful comments” aimed at candidates on social networks.
“TF1 and Endemol will report any hate campaign against candidates and reserve the right to take any legal action”, we can read in this press release which recalls that “these attacks (…) are unacceptable and punishable by law.
“You like it Star Academy for the goodwill that emerges, the solidarity and cohesion that characterize the show,” adds the press release. “It is in this spirit that we invite you to convey these same values in your exchanges on social networks.”
Ebony and Emma harassed
This press release was published while one of the candidates, Ebony, was the victim of racist and misogynistic comments. A petition of support published this week reached more than 2,200 signatures in one day. Eliminated a few weeks ago before being saved to participate in the tour, Emma is also harassed online.
In mid-November, three former academicians, Noah, Thomas and Maylis, spoke out to denounce this permanent harassment. “Calm down a little on the networks, please,” Noah said on Instagram. “They are still human beings with emotions,” added Thomas.
Calling on fans of the show to be “benevolent”, they concluded by insisting: “You can have your preferences, it's a show where we get attached to some, but calm the hatred.”
