It's the sweet end-of-year event: Netflix has just put season 6 of the series online Virgin River. And a change of actor has crept into the casting…
The streaming platform Netflix knows what it is doing. While the end-of-year holidays are upon us, she slips under the tree a gift hoped for by many subscribers: season 6 of Virgin River ! Fans were all the more impatient as season 5 ended with the discovery of Everett (John Allen Nelson), the biological father of Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge), and that this new salvo is that of his long-awaited marriage to Jack (Martin Henderson). Expectations well understood by the series teams since from the first episodes, numerous flashbacks appear to tell us the love story of Mel's parents in the 1970s. The opportunity to discover Callum Kerr and Jessica Rothe, the interpreters of the latter who could well be the heroes of a future spin-off. But among these new faces, there is a well-known one who has changed without us realizing it.
Virgin River : we bet you didn't notice that this decisive character had changed interpreters in season 6
It was during episode 3 that the most observant fans will have noticed this change: while Jack is waiting in court for Preacher's trial to resume, he meets his ex, Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley). Surprised to meet her there, the latter tells her she was leaving a hearing for the custody of the twins. Indeed, Calvin, the children's father, continues to harass and abuse her. She has therefore just obtained sole custody. Which is not to the taste of Calvin, who leaves the court with her, still as threatening. But with his cane and under his cap, will you have noticed that it is no longer David Cubitt, although present since season 1, who embodies the character? If Netflix has succeeded very well in hiding this change, the most seasoned eyes will have spotted it. From this season 6, it is the actor Josh Blacker who slips into the skin of the antagonist.
Virgin River season 6: who is Josh Blacker, the new interpreter of Calvin?
His name probably doesn't mean anything to you, but Josh Blacker is by no means a newcomer to the world of cinema and television. While moviegoers will have been able to see it in the film Elysium alongside Matt Damon, Netflix subscribers will have already seen him in the series The Recruit. He also plays one of the main roles in the series. Seeavailable on Apple TV+ with Jason Momoa, as well as in the effective fantasy series Motherland : Fort Salem, available on Prime Video.
