Since Canal+'s announcements on November 5, the future of Disney Channel seemed compromised. We already knew that Disney+ was going to disappear from Canal offers, but the divorce between the French broadcaster and the big-eared firm promises to be more important than expected. A new message shared with subscribers (and spotted by our colleagues at Mac4Ever) tells us that the channels will also suffer the consequences of this separation:
“We inform you of the cessation of the distribution of the Disney Channel, Disney Channel+1, Disney Junior, National Geographic, National Geographic Wild and the Disney+ service in our offers as of December 31, 2024.”
At the same time, Orange also confirmed that the channels will leave its Famille by CANAL bouquet. The end of Disney Channel is therefore recorded on French territory, barely a day after a similar announcement in Latin America. Disney programs will now find their place exclusively on Disney+, a change which promises to revolutionize the viewing habits of the French. The message shared on Canal's subscriber area has the merit of being clear: the broadcaster is banking entirely on its new partnership with the MAX streaming service. A few lines after burying Disney Channel, the group recalls that the Warner group channels (Boomerang, Cartoon Network and Cartoonito) joined the youth catalog on November 21.
How to watch Disney content in the future?
As the 2000 generation begins to mourn the great years Hannah Montana, High School Musicaletc., the end of the partnership with Canal has more serious consequences on the distribution of the firm's content. This break also marks the disappearance of Disney films and other programs from the Canal+ catalog. This therefore means that in the future, studio productions will not be available for streaming six months after their theatrical release. We will now have to wait the 17 month deadline established by the media timeline before the films can appear on Disney+.
Spectators will have no choice but to be patient. Since Disney Channel intends to continue its broadcast in the United States, the channel's emblematic children's series will continue to be produced. French viewers will certainly be able to find these programs on Disney+, only after the end of their linear broadcast across the Atlantic. In the absence of further details from Disney, the future is still far from clear. However, the desire to make Disney+ a priority for the future leaves no doubt.
