Lhe boss of VRT, Frederik Delaplace, has not considered resigning after a new controversy that emerged this week within the Flemish public channel.
Tuesday, the magazine There revealed that complaints had indeed been filed for years about the attitude of Ricus Jansegers, former content director at VRT. Inappropriate behavior had also been reported internally.
However, in September, the CEO indicated to the Flemish parliament that he was not aware of “any complaints concerning inappropriate behavior”.
Friday evening on the Terzake show (VRT), Mr. Delaplace brushed aside the suspicions of lying made against him. He assured that he was not aware of “official complaints” concerning inappropriate behavior. He added that “over the past few years, action has been taken upon every report or indication” of problems at the content department.
“In recent years, we have responded to every report or indication that things were not going normally within the VRT content department. We have taken measures,” assured Mr. Delaplace. The CEO nevertheless recognized that with hindsight, it would have been preferable to opt more quickly for “an investigation by social services in order to take the right measures”.
This week, Flemish Media Minister Cieltje Van Achter (N-VA) reiterated her support for Frederik Delaplace.
