Royat, its rich thermal heritage, its mountains, its picturesque streets and… its love room. In a building very popular with spa guests, this room is nestled, not quite like the others, for couples in search of sensations. Once through the door, you find yourself thrown into a lush jungle, while a secret room has been specially designed to spice up the lovers' experience. “We’re in the thick of it here. It’s what pleases, it’s what is sought after, it’s atypical,” describes Mélissa Eugène, co-manager of “Primo conciergerie” in the TF1 news report above.

Since its launch this summer, this place has enjoyed dazzling success. Allow 120 euros on average per night. And for this month of November alone, the establishment already has more than 20 reservations, with customers of all profiles. “We have very young people, we have completely legitimate couples who come to celebrate wedding anniversaries, couple’s anniversaries, of all ages,” explains Mélissa Eugène. To transform this room into an experience out of the ordinary, additional options are offered. “We have little handcuffs, a blindfold. These are extra naughty little accessories to add a little spice. It works very well”assures Lauramay Civiale, co-manager.

Finding yourself in this place can simply be a pretext to say things to each other, to communicate, to listen to each other.

The craze is such that on the Internet, searches for love rooms have increased by 40% in one year. In the Clermont-Ferrand area, between towns and villages, there are already more than 80 of all kinds. Even if the concept is still a little vague for some. “It's what ?”, asks a doubtful retiree. “It doesn’t tempt me at all.” decides for his part a local resident. However, the virtues are multiple. “Finding yourself in this place can simply be a pretext to say things to each other, to communicate, to listen to each other because it has to be in both directions. And to do things, because we don't forget that it's still ultimately, possibly, to have relationships”, describes Murielle Ribeyrolles, sex therapist in Mozac (Puy-de-Dôme).

Offering an atypical place, with careful decor, is also the choice of Xavier, real estate agent. Sensing the right thing, last September he launched his love room of more than 100 square meters in the city center of Clermont-Ferrand. And he doesn't regret it. “Every weekend, already, it’s almost all booked for December”he says. Here, two distinct atmospheres have been created: warm and romantic upstairs and much more sulphurous in the basement. “We change the universe here. There, it’s a little cocoon for the couple,” assures the owner who adds that “Couples talk about it to their friends, to those around them. It’s not taboo, it’s not hidden.” Allow 200 euros on average per night.

To reach a wider audience, love rooms therefore try to more or less subtly mix eroticism and romanticism. Last year alone, more than 200 opened in France.
