Contamination with Listeria monocytogenes can lead to listeriosis, a serious illness, especially in immunocompromised people, pregnant women and the elderly. Symptoms include fever, headache, and body aches, with possible serious complications (neurological or fetal). The incubation period can be up to eight weeks.
