This Monday, November 25, 2024, Cyril Hanouna, was in charge of his show “Don’t Touch My Post” (TPMP). The host has once again made his voice heard in the debate on the representation of minorities on television.
The PAF troublemaker strongly denounced the lack of presenters and hosts of color on French televisionthus raising a recurring problem largely ignored by the major audiovisual networks.
A bitter observation about diversity on television
Known for his legendary outspokenness, Cyril Hanouna has just made another rant. This Monday, November 25, 2024, the host protested at the lack of diversity on television. “When we watch TV, it's still often the same image that is sent back to us. We see white presenters, white journalists, white actors… Since Anthony Kavanagh, there has been no one, yet they are not the talents that are missing” he said.
An opinion shared by Guillaume Genton and Gilles Verdez who also highlighted the lack of inclusiveness in the media landscape. All three deplored the fact that television channels continue to favor homogeneous representation, often reflecting a France perceived as predominantly white.
“I speak as number 1, there is no one apart from Karine Le Marchand who is a hit anyway, so that should give them ideas…” added Cyril Hanouna. “There is also a Belgian that I adore, it’s Kodi… but the tannedest of the animators is me”.
Viewers react
This is not the first time that the host has highlighted this lack of diversity which, according to him, is not only a question of representation on the air, but also an economic and social issue. According to him, the diversity of faces on television would have beneficial effects not only for viewers, but also for the industry itself, by allowing openness to new talents and better identification of young people from diverse backgrounds.
This speech provoked a strong reaction from viewers on X (formerly Twitter). “No Asians. Why?”, “Only in France do we ask ourselves these kinds of questions”, “Wokism is unbearable!” , “It’s up to the public to decide, it seems to me”, “How many are there among the columnists?” , “It's a little too white on your set anyway, how come? You're denouncing something that you obviously apply yourself…” can thus be read.
