Bridgerton Season 3: The Series’ Biggest Inconsistency Explained (And The Reason Sucks)

As quickly arrived on Netflix, as quickly devoured by fans. Season 3 of The Bridgerton Chronicle was one of the most anticipated series of 2024 by subscribers to the streaming platform. After witnessing the union between Daphne and Simon, then that between Anthony and Kate, viewers were eager to discover how the friendship between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington aka Whisteldown would turn into a beautiful love story.

In part 2 of this historical fiction adapted from Julia Quinn’s novels, the two lovebirds said “I do” in the company of their loved ones and friends. Well, almost all of their loved ones. In reality, two important people in the story were missing according to many viewers.

Why were Daphne and Simon absent from Colin and Penelope’s wedding?

In the eyes of many fans of the series, Daphne’s absence from her brother’s wedding represents the biggest inconsistency of season 3 of The Bridgerton Chronicle. A disappointing creative choice, but one that Jess Brownell, the show’s director, fully assumes.

Aware that the heroine of season 1 has been greatly missed by viewers since her departure, she still preferred not to mention her during this very important event. A strong decision which, according to her comments to Variety, has not always been obvious. On the contrary, she would have initially worked on a version of the scripts where members of British high society evoked the young woman in order to bring her to life indirectly on screen: “We added a line that said, ‘Oh, Daphne would love to be here, but she’s pregnant again,’ or ‘Daphne and Simon? I just saw them, they’re sitting over there.‘”

But then why did the director finally change her mind?It was weird to talk about them and not see them.” she breathed. However, she still wanted to reassure fans that “Daphne and Simon are still part of the universe“, even if they are not present on the screen.

Which central characters are likely to disappear?

After the departure of Regé-Jean Page and that of Phoebe Dynevor – who could return in other seasons, according to the actress’s latest statements – fans fear having to say goodbye to other characters. A fear confirmed half-heartedly by Jess Brownell.

The showrunner explained, it would be difficult to ask an actor who plays a leading role (like Jonathan Bailey in season 2) “to give up exciting opportunities to move to secondary school.“For the moment, no names have yet been released regarding these possible absences. The only certainty is that this should not concern Penelope Bridgerton.”I don’t think we’re done with Lady Whistledown. I think there are more stories to tell.” she recently told Variety.
