Heading to the Grand Line! After an unexpectedly successful first season, the adaptation of One Piece by Netflix is getting ready to set sail again. The live-action series made its debut on the platform almost a year ago, giving the streaming giant the opportunity to get things moving again. It was through an adorable promotional video that the red N made the official announcement that filming for season 2 would begin.

The reunion of the Straw Hat crew is moving to say the least, and promises an even more palpable synergy for the next episodes. Once again, production takes place in Cape Town, South Africa, where Netflix has taken charge of building stunning physical sets to avoid resorting to too many special effects.

When will One Piece season 2 be released on Netflix?

Now that filming is officially underway, the next batch of episodes is expected to air sometime next year. It’s not impossible that the SVOD service will decide to follow a similar schedule to the first season and give us a date by summer 2025 at the earliest. We already know that the series will pick up where it left off last year, after the events of Arlong Park.

For now, the live action has more or less covered – in its own way – the first twelve volumes of the manga. Netflix has already teased that Chopper will play a key role in the upcoming episodes, suggesting that the series will once again follow the original narrative, with a few exceptions. While waiting for the launch of the festivities next year, fans can turn to the latest announcements regarding the series’ casting.

Once again, the series hits the mark

If there is one thing that everyone agrees on about the One Piece adaptation, it is its casting. Whether it is Luffy’s crew or the people encountered throughout the adventure, not a single performer has given a lackluster performance. In addition to the physical resemblances for some, others have managed to offer new depth to their characters thanks to their acting. We can only hope that the next season will be of the same level, but the first casting announcements seem to point in that direction.

On June 25, 26 and 27, the streaming giant took the liberty of revealing new faces who will join the adventure during season 2. On the Baroque Works agents side, we find David Dastmalchian (Oppenheimer) as Mr. 3, Camrus Johnson (Batwoman) as Mr. 5, Daniel Lasker (Raised by Wolves) as Mr. 9 and finally Jazzara Jaslyn (Lioness) as Miss Valentine. Some of these actors have already proven themselves on our screens and will not fail to enrich the universe of the live action One Piece with their talent.

The Red N also revealed the actors who will take on the roles of Crocus, Dorry, and Broggy, as well as those of Smoker, Tashigi, Dalton, and Wapol. The latter will be particularly important in this new season, since he is initially part of the Drum Kingdom arc, which introduces the character of Chopper to the Straw Hat crew.

Now, fans are eagerly awaiting the name of the actor or actress who will lend their voice to the little reindeer, while others are impatient to know if Jamie Lee Curtis managed to get the role of Doctor Kureha.
