This Sunday, Guy A. Lepage received the author Simon Paré-Poupart on his set of Tout le monde en parole, to talk about the publication of his book Garbage! Diary of a drainer. We bet that several of us ordered the book online after this very relevant and interesting interview, which helped to highlight certain defects in our society.
Here is how the author presents his work: “ “The world of waste revealed itself to me as I would like it to reveal itself to you in this book. By surprise. A happy coincidence, because I love this work. By telling my story, I want to share my passion. I want to bring garbage collectors out of oblivion. Above all, I want you to stop believing that your garbage disappears by magic, as suggested in the very recent 1-800-GOT-JUNK ad. these illusions to children and let’s go back to the real world, nice and dirty, like the drainers.” By reading this diary of a drainman, you will discover a world you never knew existed. A gathering of eccentrics and characters more or less integrated into normal life who work on the ridge between what our society considers clean and what it considers dirty. Who are these athletes who run our streets every week behind trucks, whether it snows, rains or is too hot? What is their vision of composting, recycling, recovery? What do they have to say about an era that generates an abundance of garbage? These are all questions answered by this captivating story. Simon Paré-Poupart has been collecting garbage for twenty years. His university studies in sociology and international administration, as well as his experience as a social worker, did not get the better of his vocation as a drain cleaner. Garbage! is his first book. »
In this book, Simon Paré-Poupart talks to us as much about ecology, overconsumption, social etiquette as about respect for others, regardless of their social rank. He marked his point tremendously this Sunday, by presenting a skillful and intelligent plea, proving in passing that we should not put everyone in the same basket, because of old prejudices that have worn on.
His interventions captivated both the guests in the studio and the audience at home, while making everyone think about their own habits.
Many viewers expressed their happiness at having met this personality through -’s Sunday high mass:

- “Simon Paré-Poupart, all very good people and very good subjects but he opened my eyes even more. And yet here the selection and sorting is done, it is the human that he is that amazed me. An unknown person who happens to touch where it is necessary. I loved it, your mission should be to introduce one person per evening to everyone talking about it. Looking for people who make a difference without “fame”, inform them of what difference they make. He named a few sectors that are in the shadows. I would add the farmers who feed, people without a title just who they are every day in order to raise awareness of the fragility of these less and less coveted functions, butcher, coordinators (we throw away instead of repairing), jeweler who repairs, seamstresses . Well done for last night
