Linguistic diversity is in the spotlight during National Exchange Week. From November 18 to 22, some 3,500 students crossed the country’s linguistic borders. The SSR supports the event and organizes exchanges between presenters.

Exchange Week is organized by Movetia, the national agency in charge of promoting exchanges and mobility, in collaboration with the cantons and with the support of the SSR.

According to Susanne Wille, general director of the SSR, “it is diversity that has made Switzerland strong and it must be preserved. The SSR, the only media company to offer content in the four national languages, is committed to this employs, day after day, with its programs. Promoting multilingualism is also the objective of the National Exchange Week.

Exchanges of presenters

The SSR, which connects the linguistic regions on a daily basis with its offer, is carrying out a special project for the occasion. For the duration of a broadcast, presenters from Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen (SRF), Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS), Radiotelevisione svizzera di lingua italiana (RSI) and Radio Televisiun Rumantsch (RTR) will host the formats from the other linguistic region. The RTS will produce the “7:30 p.m.“in German for the Swiss-German public when the SRF offers its”daily news” in French for the French-speaking public.

On the radio waves, journalists also participate in the discussions. Romana Costa, journalist at Radio Televisiun Rumantsch, produced an episode for the “Ici la Suisse” section in La Matinale.

The documentary “Do you sing Swiss?” on Play Suisse

On the occasion of this week of exchange, Play Suisse is also launching a documentary film on the interregional radio project “Chantez-vous suisse?” on the Röstigraben in Fribourg. Followed by artists Andrea Bignasca in Ticino, Chiara Jacomet in Graubünden, Alizé Oswald in French-speaking Switzerland, Dom Sweden in German-speaking Switzerland and Claudia Masika, who represents Switzerland of immigrant origin during the preparation of a multilingual concert. The film will also be broadcast on SSR channels.

Multilingualism also plays an important role on Play Suisse: with its extensive range of series – such as “Tschugger” or “The Last Romantic” – available in French, German, Italian and sometimes also in Romansh, the SSR streaming platform targets all linguistic regions.

The SSR Dialogue offer also offers an online discussion space as well as a selection of different content and translated articles coming from all SSR corporate units (SRF, RSI, RTR, Swissinfo and RTS).
