After Inventing Annathe American streaming giant will offer an adaptation of the rise and fall of Belle Gibson, a former wellness influencer convicted of fraud in Australia.

2013, Melbourne, Australia. Annabelle Natalie Gibson, known to her followers as Belle Gibson, announces that she has an inoperable brain tumor and that her cancer is spreading a little more every day. Little by little, she builds an empire by selling her book The Whole Pantry, where she promotes her new way of eating, which is said to have cured her of her illness. “Does that seem impossible to you? It’s because it is”writes Netflix in its press release about the series.

Belle Gibson has never had cancer. The deception would only be discovered several years later, by Australian investigative journalist Richard Guilliat and the local “60 Minutes” teams. In the meantime, this new kind of scammer will have had time to roam Australian television sets and appear on the covers of magazines, promoting her lucrative fake miracle cures.
