Sauron will have a big role in season 2 which will show the rise of evil in Middle-earth during the Second Age. While the character is called Halbrand in the first, he takes on an elven appearance under the name of Annatar in the second. In addition to telling us more about the antagonist, Patrick McKay specifies that the disparate plots will eventually come together at some point.
The second season offers us an interesting opportunity: the public is now in the know. We know who he is. We understand pretty well what he wants. The pleasure will be to see others get caught in his web. As the episodes progress, his plan gets underway.
