Spotted by the production of the show broadcast on M6, Giordana and Stella have been singing for many years. Martine, the mother, alias Giordana (58 years old), born in Lille but settled since the age of 14 in La Seyne (where her parents met), is a singing teacher and lyrical artist. Her daughter Estelle, aka Stella (26 years old), grew up here and is today a singer, actress, author and photo model. For Var-morningboth confide before the show which will show… their incredible talent.
What is your background?
Jordan: To earn a living with my singing teacher diploma, I had to emigrate to the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence where I was hired at the Manosque-Digne conservatory, knowing that at the same time, I give lessons singing lessons in La Seyne (1). By force of circumstances, I was separated for several years from my daughter (who was looked after by her grandparents in Fabrégas) then I returned to live in La Seyne when she returned to Beaussier high school.
The separation was difficult to manage, especially when Estelle had to be hospitalized for a health problem, but that united us: today we are united and live together in Mar Vivo.
Stella: After high school, I started studying business in Nice, then my doctor advised me to resume singing; I then returned to the Toulon conservatory. For three years, I have been intermittently performing and I perform regularly at the Poquelin – Romain Bouteille theater, in Fabrégas, while taking courses at the Aix conservatory, where I am preparing my professionalization in lyric singing.
So singing is an old story for both of you?
Jordan: Oh yes! I saw an opera performance when I was 4 years old and asked my parents: “Why is the lady on stage shouting?” “. Since then, I’ve been doing the same thing as her! I think I’ve always had it in my blood.
Stella: I think I was already singing in my mother’s womb! Even though I studied business to prove to myself that I could do something else, I returned to my first love, especially since the doctors told me that it could have a beneficial effect on my health problem. And today, everyone thinks that singing saved me from having serious complications.
Have you been singing together for a long time?
Giordana & Stella: For almost four years. We named our duo Célestair, because we were told that we had heavenly voices… We regularly perform at concerts and ceremonies (weddings, baptisms, openings, etc.). We sing lyrical, but also soul, jazz, pop-rock, French variety. We also turn a lot of solo songs into duets.
Do you have the same vocal range?
Jordan: I was a soprano but, over time, I became a mezzo soprano.
Stella: I am a light soprano, coloratura; I have a facility for making lots of harmonies and I can vocalize with low sounds and different colors.
Why did you sign up for the show?
Stella: We didn’t register! We were contacted by production who had seen videos of us on social networks. The day of the phone call, I thought it was a prank. But they told us that our duo was incredible and our bond was palpable. I laughed, Mom said “why not?” » So we said to ourselves that we were going to go there to introduce lyrical art, to democratize it. We went through three remote castings, without worrying, and we were selected.
The production of the show says that you deliver a performance “where complicity and vocal power combine”. Do you agree with that?
Giordana & Stella: That’s a nice compliment! In fact, we sing an extract from the Duo des fleurs from the opera Lakmé composed by Léo Delibes. This piece indeed requires real vocal complicity in the harmonies and accuracy, because we each have our own melody while our voices are always mixed. If one crashes, the other crashes too! As for the power, what is certain is that the technicians struggled a lot with the microphones to prevent it from saturating or crackling. It took 45 minutes to adjust the volume and distance, but also to balance them with the musical sequence.
Are you satisfied with the result?
Stella: Happy and proud; I really liked this moment. Even though I always get a little nervous before going on stage, there I was as stressed as ever, even on the verge of passing out! I had to put myself in my bubble (thanks also to the fantastic team who did everything to make us feel comfortable). The objective was to make this performance a success, not only for us, but to satisfy the public and the jury.
Jordan: It’s true that it was more stressful than during the concerts we give – also due to the cameras and the constraints of placement on stage – but I did everything I could to not show it and reassure my daughter. We also asked our loved ones not to come so that we could stay focused on our own energy. In the end, it was a wonderful sharing that allowed us to experience an intense moment.
What is your state of mind a few days before the broadcast?
Giordana & Stella: We both feel a mixture of apprehension and excitement. We’ll watch it surrounded by friends. What is certain is that, whatever happens, this show will give us visibility and perhaps open doors for us!
