LFI deputy Eric Coquerel estimated this Friday that the registered Islamist S Elias d’Imzalène is more “respectable” than Bruno Retailleau, Minister of the Interior.
Words that risk causing scandal. LFI MP Eric Coquerel was the guest this Friday, November 15 on RMC. He was notably questioned about his presence alongside Elias d’Imzalène, a pro-Palestinian S file during a rally against the holding of the France-Israel match. “That poses no problem to you?”, the interviewer said several times to the chairman of the finance committee. “In a demonstration that takes place on a theme you are not necessarily next to all the people with whom you agree,” he replied.
L’Insoumis recalls that a few years ago he participated in a demonstration in support of the Kurds with Bruno Retailleau without sharing his ideas. “You are comparing an activist who calls for an intifada in the streets of Paris with Mr. Retailleau,” the journalist retorts. “This person is certainly more respectable than Bruno Retailleau”, continues Eric Coquerel while accusing the Minister of the Interior of borrowing his “vocabulary from the extreme right”.
Elias d’Imzalene prosecuted for “public provocation to hatred or violence”
Thursday, November 14, Eric Coquerel was present with Ersilia Soudais at a demonstration to denounce the “genocide” in the Gaza Strip during the France-Israel match. “By applauding this match, the French government, once again, shows itself to be complicit with the Israeli state and its army, when the latter arrested two French gendarmes not even a week ago! This makes the French state inaudible. How could Benjamin Netanyahu not consider it a blank check?” he wrote on X.
Near the parliamentarians was Elias d’Imzalène, an Islamist registered with S who manages the Muslim Perspectives association and the Islam et info site. Last September, he declared: “Are we ready to lead the intifada in Paris?” during a pro-Palestinian demonstration. This man was then prosecuted for “public incitement to hatred or violence”. Justice requested an eight-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of 2,000 euros against him. The decision will be made on December 19.
