Viewers perplexed by the finale of “Reasonable Doubt”

This Monday took place the finale of the fourth season of Reasonable Doubt, an episode which culminated with the discovery of the culprit at Agusta and the arrest of the main parties involved. This also gave rise to a high-wire performance from Émile Proulx-Cloutier, whose character surprised us with a stunning revelation.

The episode ended with the funeral of Frédéric Masson (Marc-André Grondin), who died in circumstances that we know about, but that his teammates are still unaware of.

While some viewers felt the character’s death was swept under the rug too quickly, it was actually just a set-up by writer William S. Messier for the next season, which is expected to premiere on Radio -Canada in fall 2025.

Several viewers wondered about the meaning of the last scene, while Alice Martin-Sommer (Julie Perreault) reacted to a yearbook given to her by Frédéric’s daughter during the funeral.

In fact, this book belonged to Alice and Frédéric had taken it to investigate his colleague’s past, in particular the assault she had suffered as a teenager. This led him on the trail of Cédric Laramée, played by Maxime de Cotret, who later murdered the investigator at point blank range.

Upon receiving the book and noting the notes that Frédéric had taken inside, Alice realized that Frédéric’s death was surely linked to her past. That’s why we saw the surprise and guilt show on Alice’s face at that moment.

This scene sets the tone for the next season, in which the culprits should be unmasked and arrested. At least that is a wish that we express. Obviously, we understand that this will not be done without pitfalls.

Remember that it was Marc-André Grondin who asked to leave the series, a decision that he explained to us right here.

Following this departure, Julie Perreault published tender words towards her gambling accomplice of the last four years. It’s worth reading!
