For the little ones

A very special dog

After giving us the magnificent documentary book Whales and us, India Desjardins and illustrator Nathalie Dion team up again to tell a more personal story this time. The author was inspired by her dog to create Gustav, a canine hero “not quite like the others”. But even though he can’t run or jump, he’s as endearing as any four-legged friend. A beautiful story about difference told from the point of Gustav, a very special dog.

Book’s extract Simon’s funny solutions

Simon has a vivid imagination. In his head, ideas jostle and projects pile up. No matter the situation, the boy always has a solution. “Being a little turbulent doesn’t make me mean! », declares Simon, in this rhyming album which advocates self-affirmation. This title is part of a very nice new collection in which children are invited to be proud of what makes them unique.

Book’s extract Loujain dreams of sunflowers

Loujain dreams of being able to fly to the large field of sunflowers that his father described to him. However, where the little girl lives, girls are forbidden to use their wings. “It’s unfair that I’m not allowed to fly. The boys are already starting to learn. Why not me ? », she said one morning to her father. With his help, the young girl will bring about a wind of change. This moving story is inspired by the story of Loujain Al-Hathloul, who was imprisoned after defending women’s right to drive a car in Saudi Arabia.

Book’s extract Small murders between friends – Skid

Annelie’s plan was a disaster waiting to happen. Asking Ed to “accidentally” hurt their friend Raph so he doesn’t enter their township talent show? What a bad idea! What was supposed to happen happened: things went wrong. Even though the title of the novel seems to reveal an important part of the story, the suspense is omnipresent throughout the reading. The twists and turns (and the errors on the part of the young amateur criminals) follow one another in this gripping novel that is quickly devoured. A series to follow written by the creator of the blog Sophie Lit.

Determined not to let himself be “reformed”, Benjamin will make friends with other students to outwit the system. This volume 1 is a first step into an intriguing universe into which we can’t wait to dive again.
