This sixth book in seven years in government sold less well than the previous one. Released at the end of April 2023, in a tense social and political context, American escape had sold 3,430 copies in two weeks. “’The French Way’ was written during the Christmas holidays. At the rate of four to five hours a day,” he defended.
And to elaborate: “I began my political career in 2004, I published my first book the same year. That was twenty years ago. Since then, I have always mixed writing and politics. Writing, it’s my moment of withdrawal”, allowing him to “relieve the pressure of everyday life”.
