Morpho, did you expect to go this far in the competition?
No way. I agreed to participate in “The Voice” on a whim, but I was filled with apprehensions. I was aware that the level of the program was very high. And then, it’s quite destabilizing to be surrounded by cameras and to reveal yourself in front of millions of viewers. I know that certain aspects of my personality can be disturbing. In my art, I always try to have an engaged side, particularly in terms of LGBTQIA+ rights. It’s important to me.
Where does this passion for dance and music come from?
I’ve been making music for a long time, thanks to my parents. My father played a lot of guitar and my mother was a choir director. My brother even became a drummer. I first joined an academy, then I started dancing at the age of 12. It’s so nice to be able to express yourself with your body. After that, I made the choice to register for “The Voice Belgium”, in 2019. I wanted to make sure that I deserved my place in the world of music.
What do you remember from this experience?
Only positive! It was a great musical adventure, but also a human one. I reached the quarter-finals in Loïc Nottet’s team. We regularly exchange messages on social networks.
How would you define your artistic universe?
My style is a mix between melancholic pop and alternative rock. I have a lot of Anglo-Saxon influences, like Coldplay, Radiohead or London Grammar. That’s why I chose Morpho as my artist name. This is a very inspiring blue butterfly. This name also echoes metamorphosis. It actually suits me quite well. On stage, I like to embody a character and accentuate my personality.
Why did you join the Zazie team?
Because she has always been one of my influences. She has a very strong sense of words. I admit to having participated in “The Voice” to be able to meet her. I’ve been dreaming of it for a long time. Thanks to her, I learned to let go and better enjoy the present moment. I even had the opportunity to open for him during his concert in Mons on April 9. I have wonderful memories of it.
What to expect for the Cross Battles stage?
I am going to sing for the first time in French. People will discover me in a new light. I can’t wait to have them back!
Would you have liked participating in “Star Academy”?
No way. It would have really bothered me to be filmed 24 hours a day. That was never one of my ambitions. Besides, I no longer plan to participate in other TV shows. I now want to assert myself as an artist. I even dream of being able to make a living from my music one day. In the meantime, I will perform at the Botanique, in Brussels, on December 4.
“The Voice”, every Saturday at 9:10 p.m. on TF1.
