Why should we be deprived of reading because we have lost our sight? Based on this observation, the Valentin Haüy association, which works for the blind and visually impaired, launched a vast operation at the national level aimed at equipping as many nursing homes as possible with audio book readers. The business started three years ago, and five Creusotins nursing homes have already been equipped by the urban community association chaired by Valentin Jacquerod.

The turn of the Montcellian nursing homes

Tuesday, it was the turn of the Résidence des poplars in Montceau to receive one of its precious devices which help those who benefit from it to fight against isolation. “And we shouldn’t stop there,” said Valentin Jacquerod. Other “Victor Readers” (that’s their name) should soon find their place in Montcellian residences.” In this sense, agreements will be signed gradually, such as the one initialed on Tuesday in the presence of Marie-Noëlle Laforêt, deputy mayor responsible for solidarity, and Josiane Bérard, deputy delegate for health.

From now on, these devices will receive, at the request of their beneficiaries, up to ten books every two weeks from the Parisian media library Eole. On the program: novels, stories, short stories, thrillers… In short, everything that makes up the world of books. You should know that there are currently three million visually impaired people in France. It would be unfair to deprive them of the pleasure they can find in reading.
