A second edition with beautiful names! This is how we could describe the future book fair “Au pays d’Alexandra David-Neel” in Digne-les-Bains, which will take place on May 18 and 19 at the Palais des Congrès. For the City, “the idea is to find a place in the French literary face”.
In total, 30 well-known writers will be present for the event. Among them, Philippe Torreton, guest of honor, as well as Irène Frain and Franz-Olivier Giesbert. For the culture assistant Martine Thieblemont, “the goal is to aim high.”
Reconnecting youth with reading
After the success of 2023, with 5,000 visitors and nearly 3,000 books sold, the City aspires to continue its good momentum. “We hope to have as many visitors as last year. It was really appreciated and requested. It felt like people were missing it”explains the elected official.
Youth will also be part of the event. Indeed, on Friday May 17, interventions in certain Dignois middle and high schools are planned with Mémona Hintermann-Afféjee, French journalist and writer. According to the City, “we must ensure that the younger generation reclaims reading, because a gap is being created”. Authors dedicated to young people will also be present at the show.
On the other hand, the challenge for the municipality is to “maintain the availability of authors for the public”. As a result, round tables with the possibility of interacting with the heights will be organized, as well as photo sessions and signings.
Finally, on Sunday May 19, a concert by students and teachers of the conservatory, of lyrical singing, classical piano and jazz, will conclude the book fair.
