The writer Mhani Alaoui presents, this Thursday, May 2, 2024 at the Artorium space of the TGCC foundation, in Casablanca, her book entitled ”The house on the street of butterflies”. Published by ”La Croisée des chemins”, this literary opus depicts the situation in a country where the precarious rights of women and children can be overturned in an instant.

”In today’s Casablanca, Nadine Alam, a trained doctor and housewife of choice, has reached her hour of reckoning. His marriage has broken down, his teenage daughter AI has retreated into silence and now his young governess Ghalia has disappeared under mysterious circumstances.

Mhani Alaoui is a writer and anthropologist based in Casablanca. She lived in the United States for twelve years, where she began by studying comparative literature and recent history as well as the cultures of the Arab world. She later earned a doctorate in anthropology from Princeton University. Her first novel, Dreams of Maryam Tair, published in 2015, received the Independent Publisher Book Prize and the Indiefab Prize. Her second novel, Aya Dane, was released in fall 2018.
