Illustrious feathers sign their arrival at the Grand Narbonne Book Fair
Descriptive text here

Dalie Farah with “Finding Fiona”, Nadine Monfils with “Magritte and Georgette”, Pascal Picq with “Itinerary of a Child of the Thirty Glorious Years” or Olivier Poivre-d’Arvor with “Two Summers a Year” will be there. Just like Luana and Alessandro Belmondo or Andrée Maalouf, on the kitchen side.

Among the hundred authors invited to open a new page of their promotion at 10e book fair, let us cite Dalie Farah. She will come to defend, if there was still a need, “Retrouver Fiona”, her third work published by Grasset. “A literary and personal investigation that delves into the roots of violence”, as described by the publishing house, and which is already one year out. Dalie Farah, 51, an associate professor of literature who teaches literature and philosophy, tells the story: “On May 12, 2013, Fiona, 5 years old, disappeared in Clermont-Ferrand, right near my home. Four months later, her mother, Cécile Bourgeon, admitted in police custody that the child was buried near a lake in the region. She accuses her companion, Berkane Makhlouf, of having hit her daughter. Beyond the synopsis, she continues: “The Fiona affair begins there, follows a trial, then another, another and yet another. The press seized on it, the vox populi too: the evil accomplished has no meaning, we look for it when even Fiona’s last days are the subject of endless investigations, fantasies, and questions. The affair intrigues me at first like any Clermontois. the grieving mother and replaces her with that of a mother suspected of beatings and murder, I feel touched in a singular way. Fascinated, I attend the trials, I take notes, then as they go along. sessions, I realize that I am part of this story.” So resonant: “Since my own survival of the beatings I received, since my embarrassments of being a mother, I perceive the process which leads to Fiona’s death.” Dalie Farah even admits that, “for years I have been living with this drama. I have been trying to understand mothers, understand violence, understand vulnerable childhood and the closed doors of lives that seem condemned to suffer or cause suffering if no one comes to break this inevitability. Because the affair also reveals how evil escapes both those who judge it and those who commit it.
