“No more fire as long as I am mayor”
For the fourth consecutive year, the fireworks of July 14 will not be fired in Metz. The answer of François Grosdidier, the mayor of the city, is clear: “There will be no more fire as long as I am mayor”, he assured the municipal council on July 6th.
He justifies his decision with a desire to protect animals: the pyrotechnic show takes place during the “bird nesting” period, many on the banks around mid-July. An event “extremely disruptive for them”.
The fireworks will be postponed to the Mirabelle plum festival, which will take place this year on the weekends of August 18 and August 26.
