In Mâcon, seven vehicles burned “against a backdrop of drug trafficking”

Numerous damages occurred in Mâcon, in Saône-et-, on the night of Saturday January 18 to Sunday January 19. In the Saugeraies district, urban violence broke out. Public buildings were affected. Around ten vehicles burned. Police cars targeted.

“Seven vehicles were set on fire, a mechanical excavator was also damaged, a certain number of trash fires… all against a backdrop of drug trafficking,” laments Yves Séguy, the prefect of the department in 3when drawing up an initial assessment. “We are facing urban violence, in particular the attack on municipal buildings, regrets Jean-Patrick Courtois, the mayor of the city, for France Blue. And it’s all against the backdrop of drugs.”

In detail, several vehicles were set on fire during the night, including at least five rental vans from a supermarket, almost reduced to ashes in the parking lot. Police cars also targeted by the attackers. Two of them had their tires slashed, reports the Journal de Saône-et-Loire.
