JERUSALEM, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) — The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement Friday that the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza is expected to begin on Sunday.
The statement noted that the release could take place according to the planned plan, subject to the approval of the security cabinet and the government, and the entry into force of the agreement with Hamas.
Earlier in the day, the prime minister’s office said in a separate statement that Netanyahu had been informed by the negotiating team that agreements had been reached for the release of the hostages. The prime minister has called a cabinet meeting for Friday.
-Before the cabinet meeting, an assessment of the security and operational situation took place for the implementation of the agreement, under the leadership of Mr. Netanyahu and the Israeli negotiating team.
Mr. Netanyahu also asked the coordinator for captured and missing persons, Gal Hirsch, to organize preparations to welcome the hostages upon their return to Israel.
