Every year, the Swiss Heritage Department awards a prize to Swiss municipalities for exemplary protection of the urban landscape. This year, the Wakker Prize goes to the canton of Graubünden.

Poschiavo is nestled in the Alps and characterized by Mediterranean influence and tells the fascinating story of a once-thriving trading town between Graubünden and Italy, the argument goes.

With the historic and clearly legible structure of Poschiavo, they are now included in the Federal Inventory of Swiss Sites of National Importance (ISOS) worthy of protection.

According to the Swiss Department of Heritage, Poschiavo is a model for careful use of building culture. The community has carefully inventoried its historic assets and developed building regulations ensuring high-quality maintenance and further development. Its isolation made the community a model of regional independence.

The official award ceremony will take place on August 23, 2025 as part of a public celebration.
