Lagaf’: “The producer explained to me that he was going to have to cut a lot of things”

Twenty years after its stop on TF1, Bigdil, an emblematic game hosted by Vincent Lagaf’, made its comeback on RMC Story. Although the concept and setting remained the same, the animator had to adapt his animation style to the new codes of the company.

Bill the extraterrestrial, the goofballs, the gimmicks that punctuate the game: the production took care to preserve all the ingredients that made the show successful on TF1. For his big comeback, this Thursday at 9:10 p.m. on RMC Story, no risks were taken.

Questioned by Le Figaro, Vincent Lagaf’ did not hide his enthusiasm: “I find the Bigdil as I loved it, as I created it, as the whole initial team took the trouble to do it. This is exactly what I wanted. Honestly, I couldn’t dream of anything better and I don’t know if I’ll do anything else afterwards. As Hervé Hubert, the first producer of Bigdil, said: “We are not immune to success”, a phrase that I love. If we manage to make a nice hit with this thing, I think I’ll stop.

This new version therefore remains faithful in all respects to the original. Except for a few details.

If the 65-year-old host insisted on production that the game return to its original version, he still had to adapt to the times and adjust certain aspects of his humor.

“The producer came to see me and explained to me that he was going to have to cut a lot of things,” he said. “When I use a Portuguese accent, it’s not to make fun of the Portuguese, it’s what I’ve been doing for 40 years. Today, if you use an Arab accent, you are called racist, but not if you use a Quebec accent. That’s terribly hypocritical. I stopped watching TV, but I haven’t changed. So I force myself to adapt, because I don’t want to give fodder to people looking for controversy.”
