The actress Kim Yaroshevskaya, who died last Sunday at the age of 101, became known to the Quebec public for her role in Fanfreluche. In his memory, fifteen episodes of the cult youth series were released on ICI Tou.tv.

Fanfreluche is a doll with red cheekbones who has a large book of magical tales which she opens to the delight of her young audience. When she doesn’t like the way a story unfolds, she enters the book to change the course of events.

The character first appeared on the show Fafouinin 1954, before joining the band The surprise boxfrom 1956 to 1967. In 1968, she got her own show, which was broadcast on - until 1971. Kim Yaroshevskaya was not only the interpreter of Fanfreluche, but also the author of the series.

Born in 1923 in the Soviet Union, into a Jewish family, Kim Yaroshevskaya emigrated to Quebec at the age of 10, after the imprisonment of her father and the death of her mother. She learned French at the École des beaux-arts de Montréal, which she attended from 1940, before being naturalized Canadian in 1945.

It was within the troupe of the Théâtre Le Grenier that she created the character of Fanfreluche, in 1954. This role allowed her to develop a very strong bond with young people, a bond that she maintained by playing Grand- Mother in the series Pass-Partoutfrom 1977 to 1987.

In addition to the 15 episodes of Fanfreluche available on HERE Tou.tv, two episodes of the series – The princess, the knight, the king and the parrot et Sleeping Beauty – will also be broadcast in bursts on ICI ARTV on Saturday, January 18 at 4 p.m. and Sunday, January 19 at 3:30 p.m.
