On the sidelines of the New Year, citizens share their wishes for the year to come. Between hope, optimism and solidarity, they send inspiring messages, encouraging everyone to welcome 2025 with enthusiasm and determination for a promising future.
Dharam Gokhool, President of the Republic: “Remain cautious and avoid excesses”
“As is the Mauritian tradition, during this holiday season, our compatriots from Mauritius, Rodrigues, Agalega and Saint-Brandon, as well as our Chagossian brothers and sisters, without forgetting those from our diaspora, celebrate the holidays of end of the year in a spirit of love and friendship. It is a moment of conviviality, marked by a warm atmosphere and a deep spirit of sharing and solidarity.
The end-of-year holidays are also a good time to take stock of the past year and make resolutions for improvements on a personal and collective level.
I take this opportunity to offer you my best wishes. A little advice: have fun, but stay careful and avoid excesses.
Happy birthday to all. Banana ! »
Father Goupille, President of the Council of Religions: “May together we be able to build deep unity”
“In this new year, I hope that all Mauritian citizens continue to live in peace and mutual respect. That together we can build a deep unity, based on harmony and solidarity.
I also want our country to continue its path towards growth, development and prosperity, while preserving the values of respect for each person’s religion and cultures.
I send you all my best wishes for 2025, especially for excellent health and lots of happiness. May this year be synonymous with success and well-being for all Mauritians. »
Laura Jaymangal, Executive Officer at Transparency Mauritius: “Continue to work for a more transparent country”
For 2025, we hope to increase our visibility, continue our work for a more transparent country, where institutions operate ethically and where democracy is truly experienced.
At Transparency Mauritius, we hope that in 2025, we will be able to continue working towards a more transparent country, where corruption decreases and where the political will for change is affirmed. We believe it is essential that institutions begin to operate efficiently and ethically again, to build a country where life is good. »
Francois de Grivel, industrialist: “Hope is now focused on a better future for all”
Furthermore, dialogue between the public and private sector will be crucial for making long-term strategic decisions and creating sustainable solutions.
The message for 2025: a year of good intentions, improved employment, and rising standards of living for all. With a new government, the hope is to see concrete actions to improve the country’s situation. »
Ranini Cundasawmy, sportswoman: “Let us keep the spirit of unity within us”
2025 is a new page, a new chapter to write. Let us keep within ourselves the spirit of unity and resilience that makes our nation strong. May this year bring to every Mauritian family love, joy and countless opportunities to grow and shine.
Let’s continue to support each other, celebrate our differences and strengthen those unique bonds that make our island so precious. Let’s take the time to savor the little joys of everyday life and appreciate each moment of happiness, no matter how simple it may be.
To our young people full of dreams and our elders full of wisdom, to those who build and those who inspire: I wish you a year where your efforts will bear fruit, where your hearts will be filled with happiness and where your dreams will rise high .
Let’s build an even brighter, more united and more prosperous future for our beautiful Mauritius. With all my love and gratitude for Mauritius which I am proud to call home. »
Nasreen Banu Ahseek, educator and artist: “May this year be a promise kept, and an inspiration for all”
Art, for its part, is the mirror of our identity and a bridge between our differences. It invites us to celebrate our diversity and come together around common values. I hope that art will be more supported and integrated into our daily lives, that it will become a powerful tool to raise awareness, educate and inspire future generations.
Finally, I hope that our new government will work with sincerity, transparency and dedication to build a country where every citizen, whatever their background, can find their place and contribute to a harmonious society. 2025 could be the year when, together, we put our strengths at the service of an enlightened future, imbued with wisdom, creativity and humanity. May this year be a promise kept, and an inspiration to all. »
Edley Maurer, social worker: “We must build a more inclusive society”
I also want our country to invest in the future of our children, with an emphasis on quality education for all. It is imperative that the Minister of Education makes inclusion a priority and that no one is excluded. No child should be left behind in the education system. Quality education, as recommended by the UN, must be accessible to all, without exception.
The Ministry of Education must stop delegating essential responsibilities to external entities. An inclusive system is needed, especially for children with special needs. And it is crucial that access to school is guaranteed for all, including in terms of adapted transport.
We must build a more inclusive society, in which all children, whatever their needs, can thrive and succeed. This change is essential to building a better future for our young generation.
I hope this new government will bring significant changes to our education system.
Happy New Year 2025 to everyone and may our society become more inclusive and fairer for all our children. »
Angelina Paul, mother of a disabled and autistic child: “A special thought for mothers who support disabled or autistic children”
I also think of those who, like my son, Jean-Marie, have been forced to leave school because there is not enough supervision. It is essential that we work together so that all children, even the most vulnerable, have a chance to flourish, to have the right to education and integration into society.
Many young children, unfortunately, cannot attend school due to various difficulties. We must do more to offer them adapted solutions in terms of educational support and inclusion.
The inclusion of children with specific needs in the education system is essential. These children deserve to grow up in an environment in which they are supported, listened to and encouraged to develop their potential.
For 2025, let’s ensure that every child, without exception, can benefit from the same opportunities for education and development. May this year be one of inclusion, solidarity and support for all.
Happy New Year to everyone and may every step we take together bring us closer to a more just and inclusive society. »
