Sophie Hediger, a promising young snowboarder, has died after being hit by an avalanche – Nordest24

On the way down, the couple turned onto a runway closedignoring the danger they were in. Just as they were on that track, the accident occurred: a powerful avalanche swept away Sophie. Despite the immediate intervention of the rescue services, the body of the young snowboarder was found only two hours later, and the rescue operations resuscitation they couldn't save her.

The climatic conditions of those days, characterized by heavy snowfall, had increased the risk of avalanches, as underlined by the Grisons cantonal police, who launched an investigation to clarify the incident.

Sophie Hediger was one of the most promising athletes on the international scene. In the 2023/24 season she had already achieved two World Cup podiums, showing great talent and determination that had led her to become a leading figure in her sport. His second position in the general test for the world championships in St. Moritz had made her dream of being able to win a medal in her native Switzerland, in Engadine, next March. Another important milestone in his career was achieved with his participation in the Olympic Games Beijing 2022where she was noted for her extraordinary abilities.
