Last Saturday’s devastating cyclone left a deep mark on the island. The most vulnerable homes, particularly those in the slumswere completely destroyed. Schools, the main police station and the island’s only hospital were severely damaged.

A humanitarian emergency

Cyclone Chido was destructive and deadly, wiping out hundreds and perhaps thousands of victimsaccording to the prefect of the island. Those affected must find the way to protect their homes and devastated neighborhoods, but the available resources – human, material or financial – remain woefully inadequate.

What do associations do in the field?
