On December 1, Jean-Aimé Daney, a fairground resident in Bruges, in Gironde, discovered his ride reduced to ashes, reports 3 Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Installed only four days ago on the small square near the town hall for the Christmas festivities, the attraction was completely destroyed by a fire that occurred during the night.

“It’s not just equipment. It’s my baby,” confides Jean-Aimé. The fire, which broke out around 3 a.m., is suspected of being of criminal origin. Images from video surveillance cameras show an individual present on the scene at the time of the incident. A complaint has been filed, and an investigation is underway to identify the perpetrator of this act.

A prize pool has been launched to support the fairground

The disappearance of this ride affected the entire local community. “On Monday morning, as they passed in front of the burnt carousel, children cried. The parents didn’t really know what to say to them,” says the showman. The damage is estimated at 80,000 euros, but the attraction was not insured against fire.

To support Jean-Aimé, an online fundraiser was launched, already bringing together around thirty donors. In the meantime, a friend lent her another ride to cover the end of year celebrations.
