The increase in the frequency and scale of extreme events linked to global warming, such as those we have just seen in the province of Valencia in Spain, will contribute to widening inequalities and will reduce the progress made in recent decades to fight against poverty.
The most vulnerable populations will be moved from their living areas to other locations, to ensure their health and survival.
It is no longer possible to deny climate change. It is liberal, consumer and profit policies that lead us to such devastation and disasters, because climate change is mainly due to human activity.
This disruption is already generating multiple disruptions whose impacts are devastating, in particular for the populations who live there with the worsening of hunger, poverty and inequalities.
The rise in temperatures of the Mediterranean Sea and the urbanization of flood-prone areas in the Valencia region explain the scale of the disaster which left 222 dead and many missing. I am overwhelmed by the magnitude of the disaster and by the courage of the entire population who must take the place of the political powers who put them in this situation. Shame on those who continue to deny global warming, even in the face of this ecological disaster.
Citizen mobilization remains the best way to convince public authorities to stop the use of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, gas, forestry or even intensive livestock farming, which lead to an increase in gases which accumulate in the atmosphere, causing global warming.
