After the explosion of a homemade device in the toilets of a college in on Wednesday November 27, two teenagers were arrested. One of them mentioned a game he saw on TikTok. Explanations.

What happened?

Public prosecutor Éric Bouillard explained that a 15-year-old minor said he wanted to reproduce an experience seen on the social network. Unfortunately, the latter is being prosecuted for “damage by dangerous means and unintentional injuries”. The explosion left three people injured, one of whom was subject to voluntary interruption of work (ITT). All were taken to hospital following the incident.

The prosecutor also specifies: “He was presented before a children’s judge and is summoned to appear before the children’s court on January 7.” The child is described as « turbulent » by the authorities. He would have “threw a bottle of acid down the toilet or sink”. A jet which then caused an “explosion phenomenon”, reports BFM.

A TikTok “game” ?

According to The Western Mailthe college students would have been inspired by a game that circulates on the platform. They mixed an acid in a firecracker in a bottle before blowing into it and producing the explosion. They then ran out of the toilets.

Our colleagues also report that an accident of the same nature occurred in Amboise in Indre-et- in 2017. Teenagers exploded a plastic bottle containing hydrochloric acid and aluminum foil. Here again, the young people were talking about a game they had seen on the Internet.

In the meantime, the Maine-et-Loire prefecture wished to salute the exemplary reaction of teachers and underlined the prompt intervention of firefighters and law enforcement. Probably taken aback, even shocked by what happened, the members of the establishment and the students will benefit from a listening cell.
