LIVE – Budget: the RN will vote for censure against Michel Barnier “unless there is a last minute miracle”

The Assembly examines the 2025 Social Security budget this Monday, December 2, with probable recourse to article 49.3 by Michel Barnier to have it adopted.

Marine Le Pen confirmed on Sunday to TF1-LCI that the RN would vote for a motion of censure “unless there is a spectacular reversal by the Prime Minister” on the text.

This Monday, Jordan Bardella also warned that the RN would vote to censure the government “barring a last-minute miracle”.

Budget 2025: the moment of truth for Michel Barnier

Minute by minute

THE RN WILL VOTE CENSORSHIP “EXCEPT MIRACLE”

The RN will vote for censorship of the government “barring a last-minute miracle”, announces Jordan Bardella on RTL. “The budget that was presented by the government is a punishment budget, which will drastically slow down the economic activity of our country, weaken the purchasing power of our compatriots. (…) We tried until the end last minute to propose what appeared to be common sense measures and savings in the state budget”, assures the president of the RN.

“Consequently, from the moment Michel Barnier continues the policy of Emmanuel Macron, the National Rally will obviously censor this government,” he confirms. “The National Rally will activate the mechanism of voting for censure, barring obviously a last minute miracle, if Michel Barnier were to review his copy by 3 p.m. But I have little hope that he will be pardoned. “

“THIS IS NO LONGER THE GOVERNMENT TEXT”

“We have a budget which was discussed with parliamentarians. It comes from what we call a joint joint committee, which means that deputies and senators have reached an agreement. It is no longer the government's text “, defends Aurore Bergé, EPR deputy for , guest of Bonjour! TF1 Morning. “We asked the government to move. That means there have been developments.”

“The question is what is the main cost? Is it that of censorship or of accepting to avoid censorship to have a completely crazy budget with no source of savings or a pile of additional taxes? (…) When you look at all the demands of the National Rally, the question I ask myself is the sincerity of these demands. Are they absolutely looking for a pretext to censor or even if Michel Barnier acceded to all the demands? would give up?” asks the former Minister Delegate for Gender Equality. “I don’t want us to feel like we’re giving up what we think is necessary to have a budget that holds up.”

“CENSORSHIP WOULD HAVE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES”

“I didn't make up my mind, because censorship would have serious consequences. Not just political consequences. There is a real institutional, economic and financial risk”, warns Aurore Bergé, EPR MP for Yvelines, guest of Bonjour ! TF1 Morning. “I hear the farmers who say that they do not want censorship. That does not mean that they are in full support of the government, but they see concretely what it could cause.”

THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR MICHEL BARNIER?

Will the Barnier government survive the coming week? The National Assembly is voting this Monday on the very sensitive Social Security budget, with the possibility of recourse to 49.3 and already the prospect of a motion of censure from the left and the National Rally.

This text, the PLFSS (bill on the financing of Social Security), resulting from a compromise between a committee of senators and deputies, will be examined from 3 p.m. (a vote that you can follow in a special edition on LCI at from 2:30 p.m.). As it stands, it should not be voted on by either the left or the far right, in a divided Assembly. Without a majority, the Prime Minister could therefore activate article 49.3 of the Constitution, which allows the approval of a text without a vote. He would then be exposed to a motion of censure which could be examined next Wednesday by Parliament.

If the left and the National Rally, the first group in the Assembly, unite their voices, the government will fall. This would be a first since the fall of Georges Pompidou's government in 1962. Barnier's government would then become the shortest in the history of the Fifth Republic.

WELCOME

Hello everyone. Welcome to TF1info to follow the latest news around the 2025 budget. A day full of dangers begins for Michel Barnier.

Censorship of Michel Barnier's government seems closer than ever. Marine Le Pen will vote for it, the head of RN deputies confirmed to TF1-LCI on Sunday, except “spectacular turnaround of the Prime Minister”. The National Rally affirms in fact that there are no more discussions with the executive on the 2025 social security budget, which must be submitted Monday, December 2 to the National Assembly.

In an increasingly feverish political climate, the Prime Minister “remains open to dialogue as it has been from the beginning”said those around him. A little earlier, Marine Le Pen had increased the pressure an additional notch on the eve of this decisive parliamentary session. “The government has expressed its wish not to modify the PLFSS (bill on the financing of social security), this is extremely clear and we have taken note of this”she told AFP.

It was based on statements by the Minister of Public Accounts Laurent Saint-Martin to the newspaper The Parisian published Saturday evening in which he affirmed that the text was no longer subject to change. “To come back” on this text, the result of an agreement within a joint committee bringing together deputies and senators, “would sit on Parliament, democracy and deliberation whose compromise we respect”he justified.

And “extremely closed and sectarian behavior”denounced Marine Le Pen. The leading political group in the National Assembly, the far-right party can bring down the government if it supports a motion of censure that the left plans to table if the Prime Minister uses article 49.3 of the Constitution.

The RN demanded new concessions from the government, in particular on the revaluation of retirement pensions. The executive can, however, modify the text until the last moment, that is to say Monday afternoon. The Assembly will meet from 3:00 p.m.
