US President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday appointed Kash Patel, a loyalist and slayer of the supposed “deep state”, to head the federal police, the FBI, an institution under fire from unprecedented attacks from conservatives.
This announcement from the Republican on his network Truth Social implies that the current boss of Federal Bureau of InvestigationChristopher Wray, appointed in 2017, either fired or resigns without waiting for the end of his ten-year mandate.
Under his leadership, the FBI became the target of fierce attacks from conservatives for investigating the former and future president of the United States, who himself was unsparing in his criticism.

Christopher Wray was appointed to the FBI by the latter to succeed James Comey, who became his bête noire for having investigated his alleged links with Russia, accused of interference during his election in 2016.

Fentanyl is the cause of a serious health crisis in the United States, where this opioid has caused more than 70,000 overdose deaths according to the authorities in 2023.
