Crime in La Louvière: it was indeed a murder!

The victim was vulnerable due to mental retardation.

The facts

One evening, on an unspecified date between November 1, 2014 and May 1, 2015, Jean-Luc hit Christiane in the head, with his fists and a VHS tape. He is drunk and suspects Christiane of having wanted to hit her daughter.

Jean-Luc leaves to drink yet another beer and abandons Christiane in the bathroom, where she sleeps. During the night, he wakes her up because he has to go to the bathroom. He notices that Christiane has a nosebleed. The next day, she died.

Crime in La Louvière: “I never changed the version of the facts”, declares the accused, before sending the jurors to deliberate

The couple doesn't know what to do with the corpse. Instead of calling the police, Jean-Luc calls his friend Dominique, also a notorious offender. They decide, with Mary, to get rid of the body. Christiane is placed in a freezer, which the two men lug to the Canal du Center, to throw it into a well which collects rainwater from the highway.

No one reports Christiane's disappearance. The couple, who have their bank cards and codes, empty the accounts, more than 50,000 euros in four years. No longer giving any sign of life, Christiane was removed from the population register in May 2018. Her bank account was blocked. Nobody cares about his fate.

Six years later

In January 2021, Dominique's ex-partner reported him to the police. She says he helped a couple dispose of a corpse six years earlier. In April, Dominique comes to the table, Jean-Luc Clitophon too. The two men show the police the place where the corpse lies, which is nothing more than a collection of bones.

Modern medicine allows forensic scientists to conclude that the cause of death was a cerebral hemorrhage, the result of blows to the head. Jean-Luc Clitophon confesses to having hit Christiane in the head, but he denies the intention to kill. The twelve jurors ruled that it was murder.
