Côte-d’Or: “we are in demand twice as much as before”, confides the president of the chamber of agriculture

Burgundian farmers are mobilized again this week. A convoy of tractors joined Strasbourg at the call of the FDSEA of Côte-d’Or and Saône-et-Loire to protest against Mercosur and to denounce administrative constraints that are still too burdensome. “A year later, it seems like nothing happened”

Vincent Lavier understands the anger and weariness of farmers. “This anger is part of everything that has happened today. When we talk about Mercosur, we have reason to be in the most complete incomprehension. We cannot declare on one side that “agriculture is a great national cause and after delivering it on the altar of free trade, a year after the first demonstrations, we have the impression that nothing has happened. The fault of the dissolution, too.”

Supporting farmers in difficulty

To provide answers to the questions and concerns of farmers in the department, the Côte-d’Or Chamber of Agriculture has set up a “Facing Together” unit which, historically, supports farmers suffering from financial difficulties. “Today, we realize that we have more and more requests for moral or psychological difficulties. Difficulties linked to the growing uncertainty which weighs on our profession.”
